Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas started construction at Mayer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany where Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas are being built, too.
The first piece of steel was cut and the construction of the third Quantum-class cruise ship officially began, Royal Caribbean announced a few days ago.
The Quantum class is planned to debut in autumn of 2014 with Quantum of the Seas that will sail out of New York for her inaugural season before departing to her new homeport in China. Anthem of the Seas will debut in Southampton in the UK in April 2015 with Mediterranean itineraries.
The 167,800-ton Ovation of the Seas is scheduled to be delivered in the autumn of 2016.
The Quantum class ships will feature technologically advanced amenities such as dancing Roboscreens in the unique Two70 entertainment venue; the North Star, a jewel-shaped glass capsule, ascending guests over 300 feet above sea level and offering them breathtaking views of the ocean; RipCord by iFLY, the first skydiving experience at sea; robotic bartenders in Bionic Bar; a skydiving simulator, the largest sports complex with bumper cars, a roller rink, staterooms with virtual balconies with real-time ocean views.
