Carnival Cruise Lines moves the Liberty from Port of Miami to Port Canaveral. The Liberty joins two other Carnival cruise ships, the Sensation and the totally transformed Sunshine, both home-based at Port Canaveral.
With the addition of the Liberty on May 4 to Port Canaveral line-up, Carnival Cruise Lines already has three ships based here. In this way Carnival will increase the number of its passengers to 600,000 a year on nearly 200 cruises visiting 18 tropical islands. Continue reading
Carnival Cruise Lines brought a new ship to Port Canaveral last Thursday. The 3,006-passenger Sunshine set sail on a special 11-day cruise from New Orleans on April 6 and then on a two-day Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral on April 17. The Carnival Sunshine is replacing the Carnival Dream which, in its turn, is moving to New Orleans. Continue reading
Major expansion works are underway at Port Canaveral. A $587 million development program has been started: the harbor will be widened and deepened and a new terminal and cargo facility will be constructed in order to accommodate more cargo vessels and larger cruise ships. Port Canaveral will host Norwegian Cruise Line again and prepares for the arrival of the Norwegian Spirit. A 879-foot, 75,338 tons and 1,996-guest ship, the Spirit was constructed for Star Cruises by Meyer-Werft and launched in 1998. She was bought by Norwegian Cruise Line in 2004 and renamed Norwegian Spirit. It’s the only ship of its class in the Norwegian fleet. The ship is presently based in Barcelona and will leave Europe on November 5th, 2015 on a 16-day cruise to Florida visiting Madeira, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Continue reading
Another cruise ship had to return earlier than planned because of a norovirus outbreak. This time it is the Caribbean Princess. 165 passengers fell ill with norovirus, the same intestinal disorder that forced another ship to cut short a trip this week. Like Explorer of the Seas, the Caribbean Princess was on a Caribbean cruise. The ship set sail from Houston on Jan. 25 and was scheduled to return on Saturday.
