The international music mega star Armando Chrsitian Perez, also known as Pitbull, has been named honorary godfather of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, Norwegian Escape, the cruise operator has recently announced.
Miami native entertainer Perez, a.k.a. Mr. 305 and Mr. Worldwide, will be the headline performer at the ship’s christening ceremony in Port of Miami on November 9.
In a break with tradition, Norwegian Cruise Line has picked a godfather rather than a godmother and the choice emphasizes the unconventional view of Norwegian.
Pitbull, who just finished a stint in Las Vegas, thrilled the crowd while performing at the christening ceremony for Norwegian Getaway when the ship debuted in Miami in February 2014. Pitbull also introduced his signature Voli vodka brand to cruisers at Getaway ceremony. Voli is now available across Norwegian’s fleet and featured in several signature cocktails including the cocktail Mr. Worldwide and Dale. During that ceremony the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders were named godmothers of the Getaway.
With its 164,600 gross tons, the newest ship of Norwegian Cruise Line will be the largest ever to home port year-round in Miami. The ship will carry 4,200 passengers when it makes its maiden voyage on November 14 from Miami to the Eastern Caribbean. After that, it will sail seven-day cruises every week to tropical Caribbean destinations including St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; and Nassau, Bahamas. Norwegian Escape’s signature hull artwork is designed by marine wildlife artist and ocean conservation Guy Harvey.
