Royal Caribbean adds world’s biggest cruise ship to its fleet.
Royal Caribbean took delivery of the world’s largest cruise ship in an official ceremony Thursday at Saint Nazaire STX France shipyard.
After 32 months of construction at the shipyard involving thousands of shipyard workers, employees, sub-contractors, and suppliers, the mammoth cruise ship is now home to 2,100 crew members from 77 different nationalities. Harmony of the Seas, which will be the 25th ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet, is set to arrive in Southampton on May 17. Continue reading
The Carnival Corporation’s ship Adonia was the first U.S. cruise ship that made a voyage to Cuba in more than 50 years.
After a half century of waiting, first U.S. cruise ship sets sail from Port Miami for Cuba on an historic voyage. This happens after communist nation loosens its policy banning Cuban-born passengers from arriving to the country by sea. Norwegian Cruise Line has begun construction of Norwegian Joy, its first ship designed exclusively for the Chinese market, where it will make its home port. The 168,800-gross-ton will take about 12 months to be built and is due to launch in summer 2017.
Norwegian Joy has the capacity for 3,900 passengers is being designed specifically for the Chinese travelers. The new addition of Norwegian Cruise Line will be based in both Shanghai and Tianjin. Continue reading
